The Story of thing-e

In a world saturated with noise, notifications, and endless distractions, thing-e was born from a simple desire: to create digital spaces that are quiet, focused, and purposeful. We saw the potential of e-ink technology not as a limitation, but as a feature—a way to recapture the deliberate, calm nature of reading a book or writing in a notebook.

Our journey began with a passion for building tools that we wanted to use ourselves. We were tired of the digital clutter that defined modern applications. We craved simplicity and functionality, without the constant pull of glowing screens and attention-grabbing design. That's why we build for e-ink first. The unique properties of e-paper displays force a more intentional approach to design and user experience, which we believe leads to better, more mindful products.

Our Philosophy

At thing-e, we believe that technology should serve us, not the other way around. Our applications—hack-e, read-e, and pod-e—are guided by a core set of principles:

• Focus Over Features: We prioritize a clean, uncluttered interface that helps you concentrate on the task at hand, whether it's catching up on tech news, reading an article, or listening to a podcast.
• Purposeful Design: Every element in our applications is designed with intention. If it doesn't serve a purpose, we leave it out. This is especially critical for the high-latency, low-refresh-rate nature of e-ink screens.
• Privacy is Paramount: We build tools to help you, not to track you. We collect the minimum amount of data necessary to provide our services, and we will never sell your information.
• Open and Honest: We believe in transparency. Our development is often done in the open, and we value feedback from our community to make our products better.
